Photography is a great skill whether you are a professional or a hobbyist.

You may be asking yourself, “Why should I even bother learning photography? There are hundreds of photographers out there already!”

While there might be many, many photographers in the world already there are some really compelling reasons why you should learn photography.

1. Photography is a Creative Outlet

You can use photography as an outlet to express yourself as creatively as you want!

Whether you are a hobbyist or a professional, everyone needs a creative outlet. Having something creative to turn your mind to can help you take a break from the stress and anxiety in your life. It also gives you scheduled time to take for yourself (which doesn’t always mean you’re alone).

Photography lets you learn to express yourself in an art form. It can be hard to tell others exactly what you are feeling or seeing, but being able to take a photo can make that easier. While there are many different types of art, photography is a great way to really give your unique perspective to the world.

2. Photography Lets People See Things from a New Perspective

Photography allows us to share our view of the world.

Every one of us experiences the world in different ways, and knowing how to create a photograph will help you to show that to others. As you go through your life you will see things that you find beautiful and interesting! And you will want to share that with others. A photograph is a simple, yet effective way to do that.

If you have a story to tell, a picture paints a thousand words, and photos often tell a story that words cannot. Learning photography opens a whole new world of sharing thoughts, stories, and emotions. Photographs can move people and make them really feel something. Photographs are things that will be cherished for years to come.

3. Photography Preserves Memories

The photos we take become the memories we cherish.

When asked what they would grab in a fire, many people’s first thought is to grab photo books or the digital copies. This is because photographs carry real emotion. The things we photograph and the photographs we choose to keep really reflect what is most important to us. Being able to create beautiful photographs will help you better capture those moments and emotions.

Someday, the people and things we love may be gone. And photos may be all we have left. Having those pictures to look back on can help you, or others, to remember the good times and good feelings. Learning photography lets you express yourself creatively and preserve the moments that will soon turn into memories.

Why is photography important to you?
